Jemerson was born and raised in San Jose, CA. After high school he joined the US Marines where after 2½ years he developed symptoms of Bipolar and PTSD. He was medically retired, and struggled with his mental health conditions for several years. Over time, with personal development, goals, and perseverance, he completed college, transferring from Evergreen Valley College to San Jose State University. He’s thankful to have graduated at the top of his class with a BA degree in Psychology and was the co-president of his honors society. He loves speaking about his story as well as his recovery and he enjoys working with NAMI now as the In Our Own Voice Coordinator.
